This is Athens
A visitor arrives with a little time and a city to discover. We created the complete touchscreen platform for This is Athens, from the experience concept and interface to the software underneath. Installed in central Athens, the This is Athens hub and airports, it gives the city's content a public, interactive presence.
A public touchscreen has no introduction from a member of the team. Its purpose, choices and next steps need to be apparent to someone encountering it for the first time, often while deciding where to go next.

Give curiosity a starting point
We shaped the experience around the choices a visitor wants to make: what to see, where to go and what is happening in the city. The supplied text content becomes a structured set of destinations, categories and detail pages. Images introduce a place; the interface offers a way to explore it further. Our work was to give that material a useful digital form.
Designed for the moment of arrival
Language selection, large visual choices and a clear hierarchy introduce the experience before a visitor has learned how it works. We designed the screens as parts of a shared system, from the opening selection to maps and individual listings. The layout keeps the interaction direct and gives different types of city content a consistent place on the screen.
Bring the city into public space
We developed the complete platform behind the interface, carrying the design through to working software. Its installations in central Athens, the This is Athens hub and airports place the same experience at different points of a visit. The project brings digital product design into a physical setting, making the city's information available where people are preparing to explore it.
